Horizon Overview

The Horizon line of lighting control products has been DISCONTINUED due to the inception of the Marquee line of Products.

The following information is for customers with EXISTING systems.

The Horizon PC based lighting control system is an industry veteran. Since it's original introduction in fall of 1996, Horizon has been implemented on hundreds of projects. Horizon has become an industry favorite for schools, universities, places of worship, and themed architectural installations. Horizon has become unprecedented in the control of themed installations such as theme park attractions. Horizon has the ability to integrate with nearly any show / ride control system, making it one of the most flexible products on the market. It is recommended that Horizon run under Windows XP. A list of of features recommended for a PC to run Horizon is available here. Below is a list of current Horizon products, and their features.

Horizon Software Authorizations

Horizon software is dependent on the authorization embedded into the Horizon device to "unlock" certain functions. Horizon software has two authorization levels, Basic, & Gold. A brief description of this functionality is described below, but for a complete chart of functionality, refer to this Horizon Software Levels document in the Horizon Download Area. Refer to the license agreement for specific software conditions.

Basic -    Unlimited Cue Lists,  Unlimited Submaster Pages,  Unlimited Function Bar Pages
Gold -     Automated fixture functionality, logic/conditional macros, Unlimited Cue Lists,
Unlimited Submaster Pages,  Unlimited Function Bar Pages

Horizon Universal Key (USB)

The Horizon Universal Key allows the user to utilize the power of Horizon, with the flexibility of an Ethernet based DMX distribution system such as Pathport, Art-Net, and SandNet. A Horizon USB Key can be authorized to the full capacity of Horizon software which is an amazing 7,168 channels. Horizon USB Keys support Basic, Silver, or Gold authorizations.

Horizon USB Keys require Windows XP, with full administrative privileges,  to operate correctly.

Horizon Submaster Wing Panel

Using the serial port on your PC, the 1024 Interface or the PBC, you can attach this submaster wing panel to give you 24 faders and 24 bump buttons.  Using “Submaster Pages” you can control an unlimited number of subs with this wing panel (Basic software is limited to 3 pages). The bump buttons can be used to control intensity in the conventional manner or be programmed to execute any number of macros from Horizon extensive macro language. A spec sheet of the Horizon Submaster Wing Panel is available here.

Horizon Parallel Interface

The Horizon Parallel Interface is the original Horizon device. This device will operate with a PC or laptop with a true parallel port. (This device will not work with any USB to parallel adapters on newer laptops, it requires a TRUE ECP port.) This interface has (1) DMX-512 control port onboard, and can be authorized for 125 channels, or 512 control channels. Two interfaces can be utilized on PCs with multiple parallel ports if need be. The Horizon Parallel Interface is ideal for smaller venues with a smaller channel count, such as a few dimmer racks and a handful of automated fixtures. (A Gold authorization is required for automated fixture functions.) A spec sheet of the Horizon Parallel Interface is available here.

Pathway Connectivity Pathport

The Pathway Connectivity Pathport System provides DMX distribution over a standard Ethernet network. Pathport can be used stand-alone utilizing a Horizon USB key, or can be used in conjunction with other Horizon devices for flexible DMX data distribution. Pathport features advanced DMX routing functions to aid in complex system layouts. The backbone of a Pathport system is a standard Ethernet network, so installation is extremely flexible.

Horizon Playback Controller

The Horizon Playback Controller (PBC) is a 2U rack-mount stand-alone device. The PBC is used in situations where a self-contained powerful control system is needed in a small package. The PBC has (2) DMX-512 control ports onboard, and supports up to 1,024 channels. The PBC is a powerful solution for automated environments such as theme park attractions, and architectural lighting control. The PBC also has a unique feature called "Active Magic Sheets" that allows it to be attached to an Ethernet network and serve customized web pages controlling lighting functions. Programming of a Horizon PBC is done on any PC or laptop with Horizon software installed. The show file can then be downloaded directly to the PBC over an Ethernet connection, or saved to a floppy disk with a specific file name for use on the PBC. The PBC also has an onboard serial connector for connecting a Submaster Wing Panel, or Button Stations, etc. The face panel of the PBC has an LCD display which allows the user to customize any messages that need to be seen, such as time, date, system status, etc. The face panel also contains 12 user programmable function keys to provide live access to system control via Horizon's extensive macro language. The Horizon PBC also supports astronomical time events with automatic Daylight Savings Time adjust for true stand-alone operation. A spec sheet of the Horizon Playback Controller is available here.
