Horizon Controls Vari*Lite Booth at LDI

LDI - The Entertainment Technology Show - Orlando November 2003

This year, Horizon controlled a record number of booths at the LDI trade show, including the very prominent Vari*Lite booth right at the entrance to the show floor.

Traditionally, Vari*Lite would use a Virtuoso or Artisan to to run the VL rig, but since the acquisition of the manufacturing assets of the company by architectural giant Genlyte Corporation, those two consoles are no longer part of the VL range of products. Sister company Entertainment Technology is now producing the Marquee line of consoles using Horizon Control's software as their heart and continue to ship the traditional Horizon Architectural Playback Controllers which use the same software.

The lighting for the VL booth was once again designed by John Featherstone and programmed by Brad Malkus. Marketing Director Geralyn Gorshing wanted to show the symbiosis between the three companies (Vari Lite, ET and Horizon Control) by fully integrating the control system. The entire booth was controlled by two Horizon Playback Controllers, but self-directed demos of the fixtures were triggered at kiosks containing ET architectural button stations. The integration and programming of the demos was done by Horizon Control's Brian Evans.
